A Cat and Dog Story

The dog, when hungry, saw a cat.
All black, and round, and rather fat.
My lunch, it thought, and gave a bark,
The cat looked up and gave a start.

The chase went on down lane and street.
The dog all out the cat to beat.
The cat was scared but kept ahead
As round the town the chase it led.

The dog was tired, its legs were weak.
The cat then turned its foe to meet.
A snarl, a hiss, a bark, a growl,
The tables turned with just a howl.

The dog still ran, chased by the cat.
It fancied lunch, but not like that.
It fancied meat served in a dish,
But didn’t want the cat like this.

It stayed ahead and took a bend,
But couldn’t save its rear end.
The cat had jumped, it couldn’t fail,
To claw the swinging, flaying tail.

The dog went home still hungry yet,
Its owner had to see the vet.
The cat went home with a mighty grin,
It’s belly fat from the tail within.
